Learning watercolour painting is now easier than even when you’ve got so many online classes to choose from!
One of the most popular roundups on my blog is this collection of free watercolour painting tutorials. When I put that post together there wasn’t really any online classes that teach you watercolour painting. I’ve since joined Skillshare and found LOTS of watercolour painting classes. And even more is added every month! I’ve taken so many that I decided to share some of my favourites here.

Do you have your supplies ready yet? If you don’t, here are some of my recommendations:
- Watercolour paint
- Watercolour round paint brushes (the size of brush is up to you and depends on what you will be painting)
- Watercolour paper
- A paper towel
- A jar of clean water
Alright! Got your supplies and a clean desk to work on? Let’s watch some classes!
In this class Amarilys shows you how to paint watercolour florals in three different ways and how to paint a bouquet. Her classes are always engaging, inspiring, and she’s a total genius with watercolours.
This class is perfect for anyone brand new to watercolour. Juliet teaches you the basics of watercolours, what supplies you need, and blending techniques. At the end of this short class you’ll have learned how to paint these fun patterned note cards. I highly recommend it.
Peggy Dean is one of my favourite Skillshare teachers. She shows you everything in an easy-to-understand manner. In this class you will learn to produce adorable illustrative watercolor paintings in no time flat. Because each project is broken into its own segment, this class will be perfect for those who don’t have a lot of time to spend learning in one sitting.
Another class I took was by Caitlin Sheffer and here we learn how to paint a watercolour floral wreath. She shows you an easy way how to make sure your wreath is balanced and takes you through the whole process from start to finish. Definitely recommend it! You can view her class trailer here.
Teela’s classes and courses are my absolute favourite! In this Skillshare class she shows you how to paint watercolour florals and how to remove their backgrounds in Photoshop so you can use them in your designs or sell them. I took the full course on her website but if you are already a Skillshare member you can watch the shorter version there. You can see the florals I painted here!
One of the first classes I took on Skillshare was this one. And it’s still one of my favourites! If you are interested in getting started with watercolour brush lettering, this is the class to take. You can see all of my watercolour lettering here.
This class was so fun and inspiring! I painted my own night sky after following this class. You can use these backgrounds for lettering projects, cards, or prints for your wall!
An inspiring class by the amazing Ana Victoria Calderón. This is a class for intermediate watercolour users. Ana shows you how to use masking fluid and white ink on top of your watercolour paintings. The final project is a beautiful starry sky with clouds. She explains every step. Highly recommended!
A credit card is needed to sign up, but you can cancel before your two months are over so that you don’t get billed. But trust me, it’s worth it!
