We are all busy people wandering through our schedules in the hopes of finding a window to breathe and relax. Unfortunately, there are many times when we cannot find such thing. We start stressing out about our back to back activities, and we freak out if there is something more we need to add to our schedule.
Even though we cannot avoid congested timetables, we can at least organize them properly. If we have an organized life, we might even find time to relax. We won’t be constantly hustling and bustling through our plans to find a get-away gap. We will know how to plan our days and hours so that we still end up with at least 3 hours of free time per day. Yes, three!
Keeping a planner is essential to your life. Knowing how to properly plan activities is crucial nowadays. Having too many tasks on your to-do list might drive you crazy; but if the tasks are well-organized, plans are easier to follow and implement. Thus, finding free time becomes realistic. Let’s see how you can choose the right planner for you.
1. What is your routine?
You must first determine the function of your planner. What are you going to use it for? What is your daily routine, and how are you going to apply it and transcribe it to your planner? If you like planning out chores and daily home activities you might want to buy a different planner than if you use it to take notes while traveling.
It really depends on whether you are a static/dynamic person. If you’re moving from place to place (travel), you are going to need big pages to write on, and space to include all activities you could do in a specific location. If, on the other hand, you’re at home most of the day, cooking and cleaning up the house, you’ll want smaller pages with a simplistic format that allows you to write down your tasks and grocery lists easily.
2. What are your preferences? What is your style?
Size matters, especially when you are moving a lot! Even when you are not traveling, you might still need to ride the bus, walk throughout the city, or even drive around for hours. You probably won’t take the heaviest, largest bag you’ll find to carry around. You might choose a smaller purse option instead. Well, guess what? Smaller purses require smaller planners.
After finding the size that fits you, make sure you pick a nicely decorated planner. The reason I am saying this is the following: having a nicely colored planner will make you more willing to write down plans and focus on your tasks. When something looks nice, you want to use it more than you would in other circumstances. Appearances do matter! Now I am not saying your planner should match your clothes, bag, shoes, or anything crazy – I simply think it should be pleasant to the eye, and it should definitely show your character. For instance, if you are a very passionate person, you could go with a light bubbly red. If you are calm, yet mature and loving, you might want to go with a powerful green. It really depends on your personality!
There are multiple styles available:
• The Erin Condren Planner – very fashion and modern; Cara Emery, co-founder at Mastermind, uses it for important notes and tips
• Filofax – for businessmen and women
• Louis Vuitton – for people working in the fashion industry
• Volt Planner – simple and casual; writers at aussiewritings.com use it for daily notes
• The Panda Planner – planning daily activities mostly
• Kate Spade – nice design, small pages, perfect for traveling; Margaret Lane, CEO at Orlando Spa Resort, uses it when she travels
• The Happiness Planner – classic, smart, sexy, designed for women
3. What is your budget?
The last thing you must consider is your budget. How much are you willing to spend on a planner? While some people might not be able or willing to spend more than $30 on a planner, some might spend more than $100. It depends on how much you value it, and how much you need it. Search for the perfect combination of quality and price and go for it!
Using a planner is essential nowadays. Make sure you find the one that fits your needs! Search until you find it, I am sure you are going to soon enough. Good luck!
